What does "the place" of La Mancha sound like? Is a quixotic mirage atonal? Are the yearnings of Sancho Panza resonant? On the occasion of the fourth centenary of the death of Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616), this recording project by Marta Espinós presents contemporary Spanish piano repertoire—from the late 20th and early 21st centuries—inspired by his figure and legacy. It includes five commissions from Tomás Marco, Benet Casablancas, Carlos Cruz de Castro, Mercedes Zavala, and César Cano, as well as preexisting works by Manuel Angulo and José Zárate, also with Cervantes references.
