CD - A Thousand Nights (Jodie Cash, 2021)
Defining an album like this is no easy task, because if there was one thing Jodie Cash, Toni Espelta and Toni del Amo were clear about when they decided to record it, it was the wide range of paths its destiny could take, even without intending to.
'A Thousand Nights' emerges from Jodie and her colleagues' new project, renamed Jodie Cash after their time in Jodie Cash Fingers ended.
This is their first full-length release in their native Spanish. This component already denotes a clear change in the trio's direction. The album is composed of nine songs and a Spanish adaptation of the legendary song "Take It Easy" by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey, popularized by The Eagles under the name "Siempre Libre," which was ultimately chosen to be the album's lead single.
'A Thousand Nights' isn't just the title of an album that has already traveled far and wide before its release; it's a clear message from three street musicians who have worked their tails off, playing and touring nonstop, even with health issues during busy times, to produce work that is nothing short of professional. It draws heavily on influences from everything they've experienced together and learned from, as well as numerous collaborations with great musicians from the Barcelona music scene. It clearly conveys a fresh, relatable, and national sound. It's a journey through roots music in all its forms: from rock, country, and blues to nuances of flamenco, rancheras, and pop.
During 2020 they released some tracks from it: 'Umbral', 'Rock Machine' and 'Huella' were the chosen songs, the last one being published under the Nashville record label 'Gateway Records'.
It's quite a statement of intent, as it shows that these musicians can't be stopped by anything or anyone.
An adventure especially in the recording studio where their producer Micky Forteza also played a very important role, with whom they decided to repeat the experience after their first album 'Rollin' Swingin''.
Wind arrangements, guitar riffs, and sweet melodies with a very present appearance of choirs throughout the production are what can be appreciated in this new work by some artists who are at least versatile.
