Eclíptica is the new album by Maria Rodés, inspired by the work of her great-uncle Lluís Rodés, an astronomer who directed the Ebro Observatory during the Civil War. Its first single is "Fui a buscar al Sol" (I Fought the Sun), a song produced by herself with Josep Maria Baldomà and Juan Rodríguez Berbín, which combines folklore—including the popular children's song "Quisiera ser tan alto como la luna" (I Wish I Was as Tall as the Moon)—with experimental sound. The piece features backing vocals by The New Raemon and magnificent guitar arrangements by Nico Roig, which intertwine and envelop this story inspired by a solar eclipse. In the words of journalist Raúl Guillén, "although, beneath that scientific pretext, it seems clear that it draws a parallel in which the Sun and the Moon are two lovers destined never to cross paths, but when they do, they shine and ignite." To compose her new album, Maria settled in Balada, a village located in the Ebro River, very close to the Observatory where her great-great-uncle lived. The video for Fui a Buscar al Sol (directed by Laura Ginès and Pepon Meneses) places us in the mysterious landscapes of the area, where Maria, guided by this magical and inexplicable connection with her ancestor, embarks on a journey of infinite spirit in search of the Sun.
