ERIZONTE - Suite the whims of Goya (LP + CD)
The work, composed by Erizonte and arranged and produced by Scud Hero, is inspired by Goya's series of prints, "Los Caprichos," always modern and, in this case, incredibly contemporary in its subject matter. It is in the form of a suite in seven movements. It uses symphonic timbres, electroacoustic instruments, and other sound elements created especially for this work. The movement titles take the name of one of the drawings representative of each of the themes Goya addressed in these prints: the abuse of power; the vices of the clergy; love and its prostitution; the lack of education among the people; and superstitions in the form of bestiaries, witches, and fantastic beings.
As an ERIZONTE project, we'd say that the experimental aspect of the work is its quest to push the limits of the physical properties or technical execution of classical instruments thanks to the possibilities offered by the new tools of electronic music. It's about pushing the limits of some instruments while respecting their individuality. For example, a violin can play notes as if it had six strings, or a classical guitar can play a tremolo impossible for a human to play. The result is a relatively formal work, reminiscent of Goya's era, where the experimental is more than ever at the service of the audience, woven into the composition's elements.
